Digital Time
Born 1932 in Texas. Only child of a Methodist minister.
1961 joined NASA as a manager of digital research.
1965 Took over IPTO at ARPA from Ivan Sutherland (was associate director under Sutherland previously).
1969 Took a job at University of Utah.
1970
Hired by George Pake to set up one of three laboratories at Xerox PARC, the Comp[uter Systems
Laboratory. Taylor's organisation is the model for many future technology-based start-ups.
1984
Along with Butler Lampson and Chuck Thacker he receives the 1984 Software System Award from the
Association for Computing Machinery, for the invention of personal distributed computing.
19/9/83
Leaves PARC and is asked to set up a computer research centre by Digital Equipment Corporation in Palo
Alto.
