The first light pollution law

I've been wondering for some time whether campaigners will make headway in their campaigns to limit human light and sound pollution. The Czech Republic has become the first country to introduce a law forbidding outdoor lighting that spills out above the horizontal plane.

The problem with light pollution are its "hidden" harms. Astronomers have warned for years but no-one has listened. Environmentalists have warned since 1897 - YES - 1897, 112 years ago, "Electricity will extirpate songbirds". They are being "extirpated" now. Learn more here at http://www.lightpollution.org.uk
